Young Dolph's King of Memphis returns for its tenth anniversary on royalty blue and gold vinyl, housed in a gatefold jacket for this limited reissue.

Dolph put it out in 2016 on his own Paper Route Empire label, a debut studio album and a declaration of independence from a rapper who had already built a following the hard way, through a steady stream of mixtapes. The title said it all: he did things on his own terms, and he considered the people around him kings too. There is not a single guest verse on the record, which keeps the spotlight squarely on his laid-back, dryly funny delivery.

The production roster reads like a who's who of Southern trap, with Zaytoven, Drumma Boy, Mike Will Made It and TM88 among the names behind the boards. Lead single "Get Paid" leads the charge, "Royalty" swaggers with regal confidence, and opener "Facts" lays out his worldview with blunt economy.

Dolph's death in 2021 gave these songs a heavier weight, and Memphis still claims them with pride.

This anniversary pressing honours a record that put an independent hustle at the centre of the city's rap story, and it sounds as cocksure and magnetic now as it did a decade ago.
