Yot Club's Simpleton arrives on colored vinyl as the sharpest and most outward-looking record yet from Ryan Kaiser, the Mississippi-raised songwriter behind the project.
Kaiser first broke through when "YKWIM?" went viral and turned his hazy bedroom pop into a streaming phenomenon. After the albums off the grid and Rufus, this 2026 third album finds him producing everything himself while writing with fresh focus, turning his lens on American suburbia and the manicured lawns, gated streets, curated feeds and predictable routines that can quietly dull our sense of empathy.
Lead single "Projecting" swaps lo-fi haze for crunchy, Weezer-style indie rock, moving from accusation to self-awareness by its final chorus. The title track "Simpleton" sets the record's wry, searching tone, and the singles "Bones" and "Alien" carry its themes further, poking at the comfortable surface of everyday life.
Even at its catchiest, the album carries a little ache, the sound of someone noticing what comfort can cost. The jacket's painting of an anonymous fast-food restaurant under a towering billboard sums up that mix of familiarity and unease.
