Backed by the magnetic vocal firepower of Héctor Lavoe, El Juicio marked the third installment in Colón’s iconic “gangster trilogy,” following La Gran Fuga and Crime Pays. The duo was unstoppable during this golden era, and this album stands as a cornerstone of Fania’s golden catalog. Packed with swagger, satire, and sizzling arrangements, it blends gritty urban storytelling with Afro-Caribbean grooves that still feel timeless today.
Highlights include the irresistible swing of “Aguanile,” a chant-heavy bomba that has become a salsa anthem, and “Piraña,” a rhythm-driven beast that lets the brass section flex unapologetically.
