The Isle of Wight band's debut made Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers famous almost overnight, and this follow-up turns the touring group into a proper five-piece, with Josh Mobaraki, Ellis Durand and Henry Holmes now full members. Dan Carey, who produced the first record, returned behind the desk, and Alan Moulder mixed it, giving the songs extra weight without sanding off their weirdness.

Much of the record is about love, and Teasdale writes it with real candor, pivoting from tenderness to menace in a single verse. "Catch These Fists" turns unwanted attention on a night out into a gleeful threat, "CPR" lurches between panic and swagger, and "Davina McCall" is an unashamedly soppy love song named after the television presenter. "Mangetout" sneers and struts with Durand's bass pushed right up front.

The guitars are thicker and the hooks sharper than before, yet the humor still lands, sometimes in the very same line as the heartbreak.

It is the sound of a band that could have played it safe and decided, cheerfully, not to bother. Keep it near the turntable and the bathroom cabinet alike.
