Epilogue captures Warren Zevon's final concert, recorded at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival in 2002 and spread here across two silver LPs.
Nobody on stage knew it would be his last show. Playing guitar, piano and harmonica in front of roughly 14,000 people, Zevon was joined by longtime accompanist and friend Matt Cartsonis on guitar, fiddle, dulcimer and harmonies. Zevon died the following year, and the recording stayed in the vault until 2025, which gives every song here an unexpected weight.
The pared-back setting suits him. "Lawyers, Guns and Money" kicks things off with typically wry swagger, and "Werewolves of London" becomes an inevitable singalong. He tips his cap to the Canadian crowd with Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" and, fittingly for Edmonton, "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)", his tale of a hard-working enforcer who dreams of scoring just one goal.
Between songs his humour is as sharp as ever, and the duo format strips the material back to its bones, revealing the craft and the heart beneath the jokes.
For anyone who loves Zevon, this is a moving final chapter, delivered with grace and without a hint of self-pity, and the silver pressing feels like a fitting frame for a farewell nobody saw coming.
