Glitter, stomp and bubblegum collide on NOW That's What I Call An Era: Ballroom Blitz 1967-1976, a three-LP UK import that gathers a decade of glam rock and seventies pop.

The years it covers were gloriously over the top. Late-sixties bubblegum gave way to platform boots and stack heels as glam took over British television, and the charts filled with novelty hits, Eurovision winners and teen idols, all jostling for space on the family record player and the school disco.

Sweet's Ballroom Blitz kicks things off with its stomping call to arms, Suzi Quatro snarls her way through Can The Can, and Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel deliver the great sing-along of Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me). Sparks bring their wonderfully odd This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, while Roxy Music and T. Rex add art-school cool.
