Vansire have always written like homesick daydreamers, and Taking Solace, the Minnesota duo's fourth studio album, stretches that feeling across 21 tracks on a gatefold double LP.
Josh Augustin and Sam Winemiller started making music together in Rochester, Minnesota, in 2015, building a devoted following with hazy dream pop and bedroom-recorded charm on albums such as Angel Youth and The Modern Western World. Released independently in 2026, Taking Solace is their most expansive work yet, a record built around love and the idea that finding comfort is worth defending.
The title track opens the door gently, and from there the album drifts through soft synths, unhurried drum machines and murmured vocals, with song titles such as "Rinkside" and "Atmospheric River" rooting it firmly in the Upper Midwest. "North American Scene" widens the lens, while guest spots from WiFiGawd, BERÜ and FLOOR CRY add new colours without breaking the spell.
At 21 tracks it rewards the kind of attention vinyl encourages, with interludes and shorter pieces stitching the bigger songs into one long, patient mood.
Listeners who grew up with Vansire's earlier records will hear a band that has matured without losing its sense of wonder, and the gatefold sleeve gives the project the room it deserves.
