New Orleans duo $uicideboy$ pour years of pain into Long Term Effects of SUFFERING, their 2021 second album, pressed here on green vinyl.
Cousins Ruby da Cherry and $crim built their following independently, releasing music through their own G59 Records and earning a fiercely loyal fanbase without bending to industry trends. This follow-up to their 2018 debut studio album finds them as candid as ever about addiction, depression and survival, with $crim handling production under his Budd Dwyer alias. The beats are dark and cinematic, with the duo trading verses that feel like confessions.
"New Profile Pic" is a highlight, pairing a hazy, hypnotic beat with lyrics that flip between bravado and bleak self-awareness. "Avalon" leans into murky, brooding textures and a hook that sticks fast, while "Materialism as a Means to an End" stares down the emptiness of success with brutal honesty. Opener "Degeneration in the Key of A Minor" sets the stage with dread, drawing listeners into a world that is grim yet strangely comforting.
For fans of underground Southern rap, this album shows the duo at a creative peak, refining their sound without sanding down its edges. The green vinyl makes a vivid companion to a record that wears its scars openly and invites listeners to feel less alone.
