U2 rediscovered the joy of sounding like four people in a room on All That You Can't Leave Behind, the 2000 album presented here as a double LP.

After the irony and experimentation of the 1990s, the band reunited with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and stripped things back to melody, guitar and big-hearted conviction. The result became one of the biggest records of their career and reintroduced U2 as a band that could fill stadiums without hiding behind the spectacle.

"Beautiful Day" set the tone, The Edge's chiming guitar and Bono's soaring chorus turning optimism into something muscular. "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" is a gospel-tinged plea written in the shadow of Michael Hutchence's death, while "Walk On", dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi, carries a quiet defiance that made it an anthem far beyond the album.

"Elevation" adds a jolt of fuzzed-up swagger, and the later songs settle into reflective, spiritually searching territory, with Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. anchoring the mood. Anton Corbijn's cover photo, shot at Charles de Gaulle Airport, remains one of the band's most recognisable images.

Over two discs, it is an easy record to live with, and proof of how good U2 sound when they keep things direct and generous.
