Under The Blade is Twisted Sister before MTV came calling, the raw 1982 debut that captured years of club-circuit warfare, here as a deluxe 2LP set on silver vinyl.
After a decade grinding through the bars and clubs of the New York area, Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda, Mark Mendoza and A.J. Pero finally made their first full-length album for the independent British label Secret Records. UFO bassist Pete Way produced, and the result is rougher and heavier than the polished hits that followed on Stay Hungry.
What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You) opens with a defiant roar, Bad Boys (Of Rock 'N' Roll) is a gleeful anthem for misfits, and Shoot 'Em Down charges ahead on a galloping riff. The title track is a dark, menacing slab of metal that remains one of the heaviest moments in their catalogue.
The deluxe edition expands the original album with early Ruff Cutts recordings and a live track, giving fans a fuller picture of the band's early fire. Snider's snarl and the twin-guitar attack of French and Ojeda are already fully formed.
Loud, gritty and full of attitude, it is the sound of a hungry band ready to crash the party, and the silver vinyl suits its glam-metal swagger perfectly.
