Trytan’s Celestial Messenger returns on opaque turquoise vinyl, a Collector’s Edition limited to just 200 copies, and it comes with some serious extras.

First released in 1987 on R.E.X. Records, this progressive Christian metal landmark blends technical brilliance in the spirit of Rush and Dream Theater with melodic depth and the spiritual vision of early Genesis. Now officially licensed and remastered for vinyl in 2025 by Rob Colwell, it adds bonus live tracks from Trytan’s return at Cornerstone 2001 for a little extra history.

Lary Dean’s guitars and lead vocals drive a record that mixes muscle with ambition. Gettin’ Ready opens with energy, Mr. Electric and It’s War bring the punch, and the seven-minute Genesis stretches out in true progressive fashion, closing the original album on an ambitious note.

The package is a treat. Every copy includes a hand-signed 30 x 30 cm album flat autographed by Lary Dean, featuring the band-preferred alternate cover first seen on the 2021 Gold CD reissue, plus detailed song memoirs from Dean himself on the inspiration behind each track.

A turquoise slab of 1980s progressive metal history, pressed in a run small enough to feel properly special. For collectors of classic Christian metal and anyone who likes their prog with heart and a signature, this one earns its spot on the shelf.
