Tori Amos turned twelve songs written by men inside out on Strange Little Girls, and this double-LP edition wears the cover portrait tied to her take on "I Don't Like Mondays".

Released in 2001, the concept album found her inventing a different female character for each cover and photographing herself as every one of them. The idea was simple and unsettling: hear familiar songs through the eyes of the women in them, or the women forced to live alongside the men who wrote them. Recorded at her studio in Cornwall, it remains one of the boldest projects of her career.

Her version of Eminem's "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" is still chilling, whispered from the point of view of the murdered wife. Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" becomes a slow, aching lament, and Slayer's "Raining Blood" turns into something eerie and hypnotic, a world away from thrash. The Boomtown Rats song behind this edition's sleeve sits on the third side, and a fourth side adds two B-sides plus Springsteen and Elvis Costello covers cut during the original sessions but left off the album.

Twenty-five years on, the album sounds more pointed than ever, and this edition puts one of its most striking characters right on the front. It is a fascinating way into Tori's most provocative record.
