Twelve songs by men get turned inside out on Tori Amos's Strange Little Girls, and the 2001 album now arrives on vinyl for the first time as a double LP with four extra tracks.

Conceived as a concept record, it reimagines songs written and first performed by men from a female point of view, with Amos inventing a distinct woman for each track and posing for photographs as every character. Self-produced and recorded at her studio in Cornwall, it was a daring move from an artist never interested in playing it safe.

Her version of The Beatles' Happiness Is a Warm Gun stretches to nearly ten minutes, turning a playful collage into a sombre reflection on guns and violence. She recasts Eminem's '97 Bonnie & Clyde as a chilling whisper from the perspective of the murdered wife, while Slayer's Raining Blood becomes something eerie and spectral at the piano.

The fourth side gathers the extras: previously unreleased covers of songs by Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello, plus takes on David Bowie and Alice Cooper first issued as B-sides.

Twenty-five years on, the album feels even more pointed than it did on release, a bold piece of reinvention from one of the most fearless songwriters of her generation. Across two discs, it finally gets its vinyl showcase.
