Thrice dug a little deeper after Palms with Deeper Wells, a four-song EP pressed on white vinyl.
The songs were recorded during the sessions for Palms, the band's 2018 album, and released in 2019 as a companion piece. They carry the same mix of heavy, searching rock and quiet introspection, and Dustin Kensrue, Teppei Teranishi and brothers Eddie and Riley Breckenridge sound loose and confident, comfortable enough to let these tracks stand on their own rather than sit in the album's shadow.
The title track is a short, urgent opener at under three minutes, all forward motion and big-hearted vocals. "A Better Bridge" and "In This Storm" stretch out past four minutes each, giving the band room to build from restraint to release, while "Stumbling West" brings the set to a close with quiet resolve.
Kensrue's voice remains the anchor, gravelly and earnest, and Teranishi's guitar textures move easily between shimmer and grind. The Breckenridge brothers keep the rhythm section supple, never showy, always serving the song.
Short but satisfying, it plays like a postscript that deserves its own spotlight. For fans who wore out Palms, these four songs feel like finding an extra chapter tucked into the back of a favourite book, and the white vinyl makes it a collectable piece of the band's later years.
