Brace yourself—Easter, the sophomore album from These Arms Are Snakes, is a snarling, shape-shifting beast that takes post-hardcore and mutates it into something feral, fiery, and ferociously smart. Originally released in 2006, this album finds the Seattle four-piece doubling down on the off-kilter grooves and seething intensity that made their debut so captivating.
From the opening chaos of "Mescaline Eyes" to the sludgy stomp of "Subtle Body," Easter strikes a fine balance between aggression and atmosphere. The band doesn’t just rage—they slither, twist, and slide through tracks like "Horse Girl" and "Perpetual Bris," with Steve Snere’s vocals morphing from venomous shouts to hypnotic chants in seconds. And let’s not ignore the sheer groove of "Child Chicken Play," which brings in a menacing funk edge beneath all the noise.
The album was recorded with Matt Bayles, who once again captures the band’s unrelenting energy without sanding off the edges. Guitars squeal and crash, synths buzz like live wires, and the rhythm section hits like controlled demolition—calculated but devastating.
