Billy Childish and Thee Headcoats keep the garage doors wide open on Children of the Sect, a brand new fourteen-song album that sounds every bit as scrappy and gleeful as their 1990s heyday.

Formed in Chatham, Kent, in 1989, the band grew out of Childish's punk roots in The Pop Rivets and The Milkshakes and became cult garage rock royalty, with Jack White among their admirers. After bowing out in 2000, they returned with Irregularis (The Great Hiatus) in 2023 and The Sherlock Holmes Rhythm 'n' Beat Vernacular in 2025, and this new set suggests they have no intention of slowing down.

The recipe hasn't changed, and nobody would want it to: a Bo Diddley beat, Sonics-style fuzz and the kind of bluntness that refuses to dress anything up. "The Medway Queen" opens the album with a salute to home turf, "Bo Diddley's a Serial Killer" pays twisted homage to an old hero, and "The Reason We Didn't Sound Like The Smiths" is about as Headcoats a song title as could ever exist. "Wyatt Earp" keeps the Wild West dress-up box firmly open.

It arrives alongside a new album from Thee Headcoatees, their longtime partners in crime, which is good news for anyone who likes their rock and roll loud and unrepentant.
