Thee Headcoatees storm back into the garage with Ev'rybody's Gonna Be Happy, a brand new twelve-song album that treats modern studio polish like something nasty on the bottom of a shoe.

The Chatham, Kent group first formed in 1991 as the female counterpart to Billy Childish's Thee Headcoats, and the original line-up of Holly Golightly, Ludella Black, Kyra LaRubia and Bongo Debbie built a cult following far beyond the Medway towns. They called it a day at the end of that decade, reformed in 2025 and promptly released Man-Trap, proving the old fire had only been banked, never put out.

This new record keeps faith with the blueprint that made them: primitive rock and roll, rhythm and blues stomp and girl-group attitude, recorded rough and kept short. The title track kicks things off with a grin, "Miss Ludella Black" name-checks one of their own, and "He's Not Billie Eilish" drops a cheeky modern punchline into a sound rooted firmly in the 1960s. "Mr. Pharmacist" brings the curtain down with a sneer, as any good garage record should.

It sits naturally beside the classic Headcoatees albums on Damaged Goods, and it makes a strong case that the best garage rock was never about precision. Turn it up, leave the mistakes in and let the needle do the rest.
