Between their debut and Odessey and Oracle, The Zombies were a singles band, and Continue Here gathers those 45s and B-sides together in their original mono mixes, newly remastered.

From 1964 to 1967, Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone and the rest of the band kept releasing records that were smarter and stranger than most of what was on the radio. Plenty of them slipped through the cracks, which makes this collection something of a rescue mission. For the first time, all of these non-album sides sit together on one LP, filling in the story between the first album and the band's late masterpiece.

The songwriting is the star. "Leave Me Be" and "Whenever You're Ready" show off the band's knack for moody, sophisticated pop, and "I Love You" is every bit as direct as its title. "Indication" leans on Rod Argent's keyboards, a hint of where the group was heading next.

Hearing these songs in mono makes sense: this is how they were mixed to be heard, punchy and focused, coming out of a single speaker.

For anyone who knows only the hits, this is a reminder that The Zombies' bench was remarkably deep. For the converted, it is the missing chapter, finally bound into one volume and ready to sit on the shelf between the two albums it connects.
