Pop-punk lifers The Wonder Years strip their songs back to the studs on Burst & Decay: Live From New York, pressed on white vinyl flecked with red and green.
The Pennsylvania band has long been one of the most emotionally direct acts in modern pop-punk, with frontman Dan Campbell writing about anxiety, grief and growing up with rare candor. Their Burst & Decay project reimagined those songs acoustically, and this live set, captured at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, brings the idea to a room full of people who know every word. It reached vinyl in 2023.
Joined by The Little Kruta String Quartet, the band lets cello and violin carry the weight that distorted guitars once did. "Passing Through a Screen Door" turns gentler and more wistful in this setting, while "Cardinals" keeps its anthemic heart even at a lower volume. "Cigarettes & Saints" lands with real gravity, and "The Devil in My Bloodstream" simmers with raw, quiet intensity.
The arrangements leave space for Campbell's voice to crack and swell, and the crowd sounds close enough to be part of the band.
For longtime fans, it is an intimate snapshot of a group confident enough in its catalogue to rebuild it from the ground up.
