Released in 1968, this was the band’s second studio album, recorded in just two days with John Cale still on board. The result? A noisy, feedback-laced masterpiece that gleefully defies convention. “The Gift” literally delivers a spoken-word story over distorted instrumentation, while “Lady Godiva’s Operation” is both eerie and beautiful in its surrealism. It’s messy, it’s weird – and it’s absolutely essential.
This pressing comes with crisp audio that preserves the band’s intentionally abrasive sound. Every distorted guitar squall, every amp-frying moment is faithfully captured, just as the band intended. This is not an album for background music – it demands your full, slightly uncomfortable attention.
