Collected gathers The Velvet Underground's essential songs across two 180-gram green LPs, a limited pressing housed in a gatefold sleeve.

Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker sold very few records in the late 60s, yet their mix of street-level poetry, drone and noise rewired rock music for decades. With Andy Warhol as patron and Nico on board for the debut, they made pop that sounded genuinely dangerous, then kept reinventing themselves after Cale's departure, trading feedback for quieter, more tender songs.

Side one opens with the debut's defining run, including "Venus in Furs", before the second side dives headlong into the feedback storm of "Sister Ray". The later sides turn gentle and confessional, with "Pale Blue Eyes" as fragile as anything Reed ever wrote, and treasures such as "Stephanie Says" that stayed in the vaults for years before finally surfacing. Tucker's tom-heavy pulse and Morrison's steady rhythm guitar hold it all together, even when Reed and Cale push the songs toward chaos.

It works as an ideal entry point for newcomers and a tidy, great-looking set for longtime fans, tracing the whole arc from Warhol's Factory to the band's quietest, most human moments. That is a remarkable amount of ground to cover in four sides.
