Ten years after their last album, The Temper Trap step back into the light with Sungazer, a record that sounds like a band remembering exactly why they started.
Released in 2026, the Melbourne group's fourth studio album ends the long hiatus that followed 2016's Thick as Thieves. Dougy Mandagi's soaring falsetto once powered some of the most recognizable indie anthems of the late 2000s, and here it returns in fine form, carrying songs that feel looser and more openly joyful, closer in spirit to the band's early days.
Production was shared between Mandagi, drummer Toby Dundas, Catherine Marks, Damir Askarov and Styalz Fuego, and the result balances shimmering guitars with big, open-hearted choruses. "Lucky Dimes" and "Into the Wild" carry the bright, driving pulse of their best early singles, while the heartfelt title track "Sungazer" takes its time to bloom and "These Arms" leans into warmth and tenderness.
The album went on to reach the Australian top ten and earn an ARIA nomination for Best Rock Album, a sign that the long wait only sharpened the appetite.
For anyone who fell for the sweeping romance of Conditions, this feels like a reunion with an old friend who has figured a few things out along the way.
