Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 packs fifteen years of The Prodigy's rave-born chaos onto a double LP, from Essex warehouse anthems to the snarling hits that conquered rock radio.
Liam Howlett's project started as a rave act and kept mutating, absorbing breakbeats, punk attitude, big riffs and pure mischief along the way. This collection, released in 2005, charts that whole evolution, with Keith Flint and Maxim front and centre as the faces of one of the most explosive live bands of the nineties.
The early material still fizzes. Charly, here in its Alley Cat Remix, turned a public information film sample into a hardcore classic, and Everybody in the Place and Out of Space capture the giddy rush of the early rave years. No Good (Start the Dance) and Voodoo People mark the step up to the darker, harder sound of their mid-nineties work.
Then come the giants. Firestarter, with Flint's sneering vocal, made them household names, and Breathe matched it with a menacing, stop-start groove. Their Law, recorded with Pop Will Eat Itself, adds a crunch of guitars, while later cuts like Spitfire and Girls carry the story into the new century.
For anyone who ever lost their mind to these records, this set is the definitive high-volume refresher.
