The Paper Kites' seventh studio album, If You Go There, I Hope You Find It, arrives on 180-gram rust colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket, a warm fit for music this gentle.

Much of the record was written on a friend's farm in Melbourne's Yarra Valley, then recorded at Sing Sing Studios, with the band and Matt Redlich sharing production. The title came from a phrase written on a fogged-up bus window that stayed there for months before the band photographed it for the cover, and that small, found-poetry feeling runs right through these ten songs.

Sam Bentley's songwriting leans toward stillness and rootedness this time. Morning Gum opens the album with an easy, unhurried sway, When the Lavender Blooms, the first single, drifts by on soft, close harmonies, and Every Town opens up into something broader and more expansive. Shake Off the Rain takes its time, letting the arrangement build patiently.

Mixed by Jon Low, the album keeps everything close and human, with voices tucked side by side, guitars you can almost hear the fingers on, and plenty of space left for the quiet moments to land.

For anyone who found comfort in the band's earlier records, this one feels like coming home to a house with the lights already on.
