Best Collection [2LP Red Marble] Vinyl

The Nerves finally get the anthology they deserve on Best Collection, a maroon and red 2LP gathering 29 studio, live and demo recordings from power pop's great lost trio.

Formed in San Francisco in 1974 before relocating to Los Angeles, Jack Lee, Peter Case and Paul Collins left behind only a handful of releases, but their influence ran deep. This set marks 50 years since their self-titled four-song EP. It was assembled with Case, Collins and Lee's family, carries new liner notes from Case, and was freshly mastered from the original source recordings rather than secondhand copies.

The opening run is that 1976 EP, starting with "Hanging on the Telephone," Lee's taut, ringing classic that Blondie later turned into a hit. "Working Too Hard" shows off the trio's knack for sharp, sub-three-minute hooks, while "Walking Out on Love" and "Paper Dolls" prove the songwriting ran deep across the band. Live cuts and demos, including songs Case and Collins recorded as The Breakaways, fill out the picture.

After the split, Case formed The Plimsouls and Collins led The Beat, but this is where it all started. Hearing it gathered in this much detail is a genuine treat for any power pop devotee or curious newcomer.
