Boxer is the record where The National traded bar-room bruising for a slow, elegant burn, presented here as a limited 180 gram double LP.

Released in 2007 on Beggars Banquet, the Brooklyn-based band's fourth album was produced by Peter Katis with the group and recorded mostly at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It turned them from a critics' tip into one of indie rock's most cherished bands, built on Matt Berninger's rumbling baritone and the meticulous, interlocking arrangements of the Dessner and Devendorf brothers. Paste named it the best record of its year, and its reputation has only grown since.

"Fake Empire" opens with a hypnotic piano figure and builds to a swell of horns, a wry, melancholy portrait of people pretending everything is fine. "Mistaken for Strangers" drives on Bryan Devendorf's restless, propulsive drumming, while "Slow Show" is a tender, awkward love song that has become a fan favorite. "Apartment Story" captures the claustrophobic comfort of hiding indoors with someone you love, and Sufjan Stevens adds piano to "Racing Like a Pro" and "Ada".
