The Complete Original Dunhill/ABC Hit Singles brings The Grass Roots' radio classics to vinyl for the first time, on two green LPs in a gatefold jacket.

The group began as a studio concept dreamed up by songwriters P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri at Dunhill, before growing into a working band that kept the hits coming from 1965 to 1973. Those singles were tight, catchy and built for the radio, yet for years they mostly surfaced only in their stereo album versions. This collection goes back to the original mono singles, which is how most listeners first heard them.

The highlights stack up fast. "Let's Live For Today" appears twice, in both its censored and uncensored versions, a little piece of 1967 history in itself. "Midnight Confessions," the group's biggest hit, rides a punchy horn section. "Where Were You When I Needed You" captures the folk-rock jangle of the early days, and "Temptation Eyes" shows how smoothly the sound evolved into the 1970s.

Hearing them in sequence is a reminder of just how consistent this group was, single after single.
