Twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears have never played by anyone's rules as The Garden, and Bootleg, their 2026 album, gleefully tears up a few more.

Formed in 2011, the duo built a cult following on a minimalist recipe of bass, drums and eerie electronic textures, a style they cheekily call Vada Vada, along with arthouse visuals and famously explosive live shows. Admirers like Tyler, the Creator and Mac DeMarco have only added to the mystique, and the brothers remain proudly impossible to pin down.

Bootleg was written, recorded and produced by the twins themselves in Los Angeles, and they describe it as a gathering of songs made over time with no particular goal in mind, each one telling its own story like chapters in a strange storybook. That freedom shows across fourteen tracks that lurch from punchy punk rock to spectral detours, with slinky bass lines, ska-flavoured skanking and lo-fi noise colliding at every turn. Ugly opens the record, and White Cadillac, the title track and Duck and Cover sit among its most memorable moments.

It's a playful, slightly menacing listen that rewards repeat spins, a little dark anarchy with a wink. This single LP captures the Shears twins at their most uninhibited, and it's one for fans who like their punk weird.
