Few debuts arrive as fully formed as The Cranberries' Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, the 1993 record that introduced Dolores O'Riordan's extraordinary voice to the world.

The Limerick four were barely known outside Ireland when producer Stephen Street, already celebrated for his work with The Smiths and Blur, helped shape their chiming, dreamlike sound. The album was slow to catch on at first, but once American radio and MTV took to its singles it became a multi-million seller and set the stage for the band's global run.

Its two signature songs still glow. "Dreams" bursts open on ringing guitars and O'Riordan's soaring, yodel-tinged leaps, while "Linger" sways on a lush string arrangement and a lyric of heartbreak delivered with disarming honesty. Elsewhere, "Sunday" and "Pretty" show the band's quieter, more atmospheric side, built on Noel Hogan's shimmering guitar lines and a rhythm section that never crowds the vocal.

On vinyl, the record's airy production really breathes, from the reverb-washed choruses to the gentle Celtic lilt running underneath. It is a remarkably confident sound for a band so young.

More than thirty years on, it remains the purest snapshot of a group discovering just how big their sound could be, and a lovely place to start with one of Ireland's finest bands.
