Autumn leaves, lantern light and a forest full of strange songs: The Blasting Company's music for Over the Garden Wall returns on orange vinyl.

Patrick McHale's 2014 Cartoon Network miniseries followed half-brothers Wirt and Greg, voiced by Elijah Wood and Collin Dean, as they wandered lost through a mysterious realm called the Unknown, trying to find their way home. Its storybook look and melancholy humor won a devoted following, and the music was a huge part of that spell. The soundtrack first appeared on vinyl in 2016 and has been a cult favorite ever since.

The Blasting Company, the trio of Brandon Armstrong, Joshua Kaufman and Justin Rubenstein, composed and performed it all, drawing on parlor songs, early jazz, folk ballads and old-time Americana. Across 32 tracks of songs and score, the album moves from the wistful theme "Into the Unknown" through "Patient Is the Night" to the gloriously daft "Potatoes & Molasses".

Old-fashioned instrumentation and hushed, homespun vocals give everything a gently haunted, antique glow, as if the record had been unearthed from a dusty attic rather than made for television.

For fans who return to the Unknown every fall, this is a cozy, transporting companion to a much-loved show and its gently eerie world.
