The Last Waltz is The Band's grand farewell, a star-studded concert album that captures one of rock's most famous goodbyes with all the warmth and camaraderie of the night itself.

Recorded on Thanksgiving 1976 at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom and released in 1978 alongside Martin Scorsese's landmark film, it marked the end of The Band's touring life after years on the road. Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson invited friends and heroes to join them, turning the show into a celebration of North American roots music.

The Band's own classics shine: Up on Cripple Creek struts with Helm's grinning vocal, and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down remains as moving as ever. The guest list is extraordinary, with Neil Young joining for a fragile Helpless and Bob Dylan leading the room through Forever Young. Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Eric Clapton all take a turn, and the studio-recorded Last Waltz Suite brings in The Staples for a soulful version of The Weight.

Few concerts have gathered this much talent on one stage, and fewer still have sounded this joyous doing it.

For fans of American music, this is a cornerstone recording, the sound of a great band bowing out at the top of its game.
