The 1975's Being Funny In A Foreign Language comes back on clear vinyl in a gatefold jacket, putting the band's warmest, most direct album back on the turntable.

Released in 2022 as their fifth studio album, it followed the sprawl of Notes on a Conditional Form with something tighter and more human. Matty Healy and George Daniel brought in Jack Antonoff as co-producer, and the songs lean into live band energy, sincerity and a self-aware sense of humour about modern love and modern life.

Happiness is pure sunshine, all saxophone and bounce, while Oh Caroline has the swoon of a classic 80s pop single. I'm In Love With You keeps things disarmingly simple, a chorus built to be shouted back from a crowd, and Part Of The Band, with its strings and wordy confessions, shows Healy at his most candid and self-mocking.

At ten songs it's the band's most concise record, and that focus lets the melodies and the playing breathe, with every track earning its place.

Bright and emotionally generous, it suits a clear pressing, and for anyone who has followed The 1975 through their stranger phases, it remains a welcome reminder of how good they are at writing a straight-up great pop song.
