Teenage Fanclub's thirteenth studio album, Do Not Dare To Dream, is a quietly defiant 2026 record from the Scottish band who have made gentle guitar pop look effortless for more than three decades.
The band laid down the basic tracks at Black Bay Studios on the Isle of Great Bernera in the Outer Hebrides before finishing vocals and overdubs in Glasgow. Produced by the group themselves, it follows Nothing Lasts Forever and splits the songwriting evenly between Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley, with Euros Childs, Francis Macdonald and David McGowan completing the lineup.
Blake took the title from his irritation with the phrase "dare to dream," and the songs wrestle with uncertainty while reaching for steadiness and resilience. A Domus church organ hums through much of the record, joined by synthesisers that add a soft, glowing haze to the chiming guitars and layered harmonies. Lead single "Day In The Sun" is a meditation on renewal, while the title track "I Do Not Dare To Dream" and opener "There Was You" show off their enduring melodic grace.
The mood is reflective but never gloomy, the sound of seasoned songwriters finding light in uncertain times.
For longtime fans, it is another reminder that some bands simply get better at being themselves.
