Talking Heads' Fear of Music gets the full super deluxe treatment, expanded into a limited six-LP box set that pairs the 1979 album with rarities and two complete concerts from the same year.

This was the record where the band's nervy art-funk began reaching for something stranger and bigger. Produced with Brian Eno, it swapped the tidy new wave of their earlier work for uneasy grooves and songs named after everyday nouns, as if David Byrne were taking inventory of a world that made him anxious. It set the stage for the even bolder Remain in Light a year later.

I Zimbra opens the album with Dada poetry chanted over a polyrhythmic pulse, Life During Wartime turns urban dread into a dancefloor anthem, and Heaven floats by with an almost hymnlike calm. Cities keeps the tension high with its restless, jittery drive.

The remastered album sits alongside alternate takes, an unfinished outtake and a 12-inch version, while four more LPs capture the band live in 1979 at Boston's Berklee Performance Center and the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, most of it previously unreleased.

For fans, it's the most complete picture yet of a band at a crossroads, and proof they chose the more interesting road.
