T. Rex's final chapter gets a fresh look on 1974-1977, a double LP UK import that digs into the studio tapes behind Marc Bolan's last three albums.
The late period of T. Rex is often overshadowed by the glam explosion that came before it, but Bolan never stopped writing or experimenting. This 2026 collection, curated by T. Rex expert Martin Barden and mastered by Phil Kinrade of AIR Studios, draws on tapes discovered at the end of 2024 and recorded in London, the USA, Germany, France and Manchester. It focuses on unreleased takes, working versions and studio warm-ups from the sessions behind Bolan's Zip Gun, Futuristic Dragon and Dandy in the Underworld.
Numbered takes and working versions let you hear the songs taking shape in real time, and Dreamy Lady turns up in a take prepared for Top of the Pops. London Boys and Celebrate Summer show that Bolan's knack for a strutting, glittering hook stayed sharp right to the end. The final side closes with I'm Dazed in a new 2025 mix by Steven Wilson, a modern polish on a previously unheard moment from the vaults.
It is a vivid, behind-the-glass portrait of an artist still chasing the next great riff, and a rewarding companion to the original albums.
