Brother Where You Bound comes back on 180-gram vinyl from a half-speed master, revisiting the 1985 album where Supertramp regrouped and went for broke.

It was the band's first record after Roger Hodgson's departure, leaving Rick Davies to write and sing every song. Rather than playing it safe, Davies steered the group toward darker, more ambitious territory, with David Kershenbaum sharing production duties with the band.

The centrepiece is the title track, an epic of more than 16 minutes built around readings from George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, with guitar solos from David Gilmour and rhythm guitar from Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham. Davies had first sketched it before Hodgson left, and here it finally gets the space it needed, rising from tense, brooding passages to a cinematic release.

The first side is sleeker but no less pointed. "Cannonball" rides a slinky, synth-heavy groove for over seven minutes and became the album's hit, "Still in Love" keeps the momentum going, and "Better Days" ends with a collage of voices from the 1984 US presidential campaign tangled up with John Helliwell's saxophone.

Half-speed mastering gives all that layered production room to breathe, making this a strong case for one of the most underrated chapters in the band's story.
