Superheaven's Jar arrives on green vinyl for its 10th anniversary, a fuzz-drenched debut that sounds like the nineties leaking through a Pennsylvania basement ceiling.
The Doylestown band first released Jar in 2013 under their original name, Daylight, only to change it after a legal dispute with a Spanish band of the same name. The music stayed exactly as heavy and as melancholy. Recorded with producer Will Yip, the album leaned hard into grunge and alternative rock at a time when many of their peers were chasing cleaner, brighter sounds, and it quietly became a touchstone for the soft grunge wave that followed.
Taylor Madison and Jake Clarke share vocal duties over guitars that feel thick enough to lean on. "Life in a Jar" and "Youngest Daughter" bury bruised, half-sung melodies under walls of fuzz, the kind of riffs that refuse to let go once they land. "In on It" and "No One's Deserving" keep the gloom moving, every chorus arriving like a heavy sigh from somewhere under the distortion.
The band went quiet after a second album, which only sharpened the cult around this one.
Ten years on, Jar still sounds like a bad mood you are happy to stay in, and this anniversary pressing gives it the spotlight it always deserved.
