Jakob Nowell steps into his late father's place at the microphone on Until The Sun Explodes, Sublime's first studio album in 30 years, pressed here on blue vinyl.

Bradley Nowell died in 1996, the year the band's self-titled album made them stars. Original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh began playing with Jakob in 2023, and together with producer Jon Joseph they studied the old records closely before writing something entirely new. Billed as the band's fourth and final studio album, it arrived in 2026 through Atlantic.

The songs come fast and short, ska punk energy riding on easy reggae grooves. "Ensenada" put the band back on rock radio in 2025, and the title track is Jakob's tribute to his father, a heartfelt moment that gives the whole record its emotional centre.

Friends and heroes crowd in along the way. Bad Brains legend H.R. appears on "Trey's Song", G. Love & Special Sauce join "Come Correct", and Pennywise, FIDLAR and Australia's Skegss all drop by for their own turns.

It carries the spirit of the original band while sounding like a new generation picking up the torch, and it makes a warm, sun-bleached companion to the classic records already on the shelf.
