Strike Anywhere's Dead FM lands on blue vinyl, bringing back the Richmond band's fiercely political 2006 album with every gang vocal and urgent riff intact.
Their third studio album was built slowly and deliberately. Stepping back from constant touring to focus on home life, the band worked in sessions spread across weekends over roughly nine months, with producer Brian McTernan engineering and mixing alongside them. That patience shows in songs that hit fast but feel carefully constructed.
Opener "Sedition" sets the tone, with singer Thomas Barnett reckoning with his grandfather's work on the Manhattan Project over a rush of melodic hardcore. "Instinct" and "Two Thousand Voices" keep the pressure on with shout-along choruses and righteous fury, while closer "Ballad of Bloody Run" stretches out just enough to land a final, stirring punch.
Lyrically, Dead FM stays true to the band's leftist convictions, questioning power, war and complacency while never losing its sense of solidarity. It's punk that invites you to gather close, raise a fist and shout along with everyone else in the room.
Released on Fat Wreck Chords and still a high-water mark for melodic hardcore of its era, this pressing gives a fresh lease of life to a record that sounds as urgent today as it did the year it arrived.
