Stone Temple Pilots marks the last time the classic lineup made an album together, and this red vinyl pressing brings the band's 2010 self-titled reunion record back into focus.

Nearly a decade after Shangri-La Dee Da, Scott Weiland reunited with Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz for a record that felt like picking up a conversation mid-sentence. The DeLeo brothers produced it themselves, with Don Was helping keep the scattered sessions in sync, and the songs lean into the sunny, seventies-inspired rock that had always lurked beneath the grunge tag.

"Between The Lines" opens with a tight, punchy riff and Weiland in sneering form, and it reached number one on Billboard's Rock Songs chart. "Take A Load Off" swaggers with loose-limbed confidence, while "Cinnamon" brings bright, poppy hooks and a breezy melody. "Huckleberry Crumble" adds a gritty, bluesy stomp that shows off Dean DeLeo's guitar tone.

It is a relaxed, assured record from a band enjoying each other's company again, and Weiland's voice remains as elastic and expressive as ever, sliding from croon to snarl with ease.

Looking back, it stands as a bittersweet coda to one of the great rock lineups of the nineties, and the red wax gives it a fittingly bold new look.
