Status Quo at full throttle is a force of nature, and Live in Glasgow 29th October 1976 captures the classic line-up on one complete night at the Apollo, pressed on purple vinyl across two LPs and imported from the UK.
That Glasgow run, three nights recorded with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, gave the world Live! in 1977, one of the defining concert albums of the decade. Where that record stitched highlights together, this set presents the third and final night from start to finish. It was mixed from newly discovered multitrack tapes, one of which turned up in a box marked Peters and Lee, and the results carry Francis Rossi's seal of approval.
The band are at their loud, boogie-driven peak. "Junior's Wailing" kicks the door in, Rossi and Rick Parfitt locking their guitars into that relentless chug, while "Caroline" turns the Apollo into one heaving, denim-clad mass. A sprawling "Roadhouse Blues" gives the rhythm section room to stretch out, and "Bye Bye Johnny" sends everyone home hoarse.
Hearing a whole night in sequence, with its natural rises and breathers, feels closer to standing in the stalls than any highlights reel could. For Quo devotees, this is the Frantic Four era in its purest form, captured in the city that loved them loudest.
