Sofi Tukker serve up something warm and fresh on BREAD, the 2024 album from the dance-pop duo of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, pressed on limited white vinyl.
The pair built their name on joyful, percussion-heavy dance music, earning Grammy nominations for the single Drinkee and their debut album Treehouse. Hawley-Weld's love of Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language has been part of their sound from the start, and BREAD keeps that spirit front and centre, mixing English and Portuguese lyrics with house rhythms, chanted hooks and a wink of mischief.
The title track "Bread" sets the mood with a celebratory bounce, inviting everyone in for the feast. "Throw Some Ass" is exactly as playful and dancefloor-ready as its name suggests, while "Guardian Angel (Stand By You)" turns its attention to loyalty and care. "Cafuné", named for the Portuguese word for running your fingers tenderly through someone's hair, brings an intimate, sun-warmed glow to the second half.
