Soda Stereo's Ruido Blanco comes as a limited, clear 180-gram Holland import, the Argentine trio's first live album and a high-voltage document of their run across Latin America.
Released in 1987, it was recorded on the Signos tour in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico, at a moment when the band were becoming the defining name in rock en español. The tapes then went to Eddie Grant's Blue Wave studio in Barbados for mixing, where the band polished the performances into the sharp, glossy record fans know today. The result captures both the heat of the stage and the precision of the studio.
Gustavo Cerati, Zeta Bosio and Charly Alberti play with a taut new wave edge, and the crowd's energy pulses through every track. "Signos" opens in moody, atmospheric style, "Persiana Americana" is a slinky, synth-laced anthem, "Sobredosis de TV" crackles with nervous urgency, and "Prófugos" closes the set on a thrilling surge.
For fans of Latin rock, this is a vital snapshot of a band hitting its stride on the road, and proof of how quickly their songs had spread across the continent.
