Twin sisters Katie and Allison Crutchfield finally share a band again on Snocaps, a loud, warm-hearted 2025 debut that sounds like a reunion with the amps turned up.

The pair cut their teeth together in Alabama's DIY punk scene before heading in separate directions, Katie as Waxahatchee and Allison with Swearin' and her solo records. Here they team up with producer Brad Cook and guitarist MJ Lenderman, and the four sound like old friends bashing out songs for the sheer fun of it. The album was surprise-released with no warning, and it landed like a gift.

The sound blends nineties-style alt-rock crunch with the country twang both sisters have flirted with over the years. Opener "Coast" kicks off with ragged guitars and the kind of harmonies only siblings can manage, while "Heathcliff", "Cherry Hard Candy" and "Wasteland" swing between fuzzy grunge, sticky-sweet hooks and dusty country-rock.

The sisters trade lead vocals throughout, and the mood shifts between headstrong and tender without ever losing its loose, live-in-a-room feel. Cook keeps the production simple, letting the guitars spill over the edges.

Fans of Waxahatchee's recent records will hear familiar warmth, just rowdier and more playful. Snocaps feels like the start of something, and it sounds terrific spinning on a turntable.
