Smino's second album, NØIR, is a slippery, colour-saturated ride through St. Louis cool, and this 2LP pressing gives its loose, inventive songs room to breathe.

After the warm reception for his 2017 debut blkswn, the rapper and singer made a point of not repeating himself, and NØIR is restless in the best way. Released in 2018 through his Zero Fatigue collective with Downtown and Interscope, it bends rap, soul, funk and jazz into elastic shapes, with Smino's voice zipping from playful sing-song to rapid-fire wordplay within a single bar.

"L.M.F." and "Klink" led the way as singles, both showing off his gift for tongue-twisting flows over bouncy, off-kilter beats. "Summer Salt" brings in Bari for a laid-back detour, while "MF Groove" pairs him with Ravyn Lenae for one of the smoothest moments in the closing stretch. Production from Monte Booker, Sango and Phoelix keeps the drums stuttering and the chords woozy.

Guests including Dreezy and Valee add colour without stealing the spotlight, because this is Smino's world from start to finish.
