Fantasia is Slift's most ambitious voyage yet, a 2026 double album from the Toulouse trio pressed here on yellow vinyl.
Brothers Jean and Rémi Fossat and drummer Canek Flores have spent a decade turning space rock into a full-body experience, and their 2024 album Ilion brought them to Sub Pop. For the follow-up, Jean drew on Jorge Luis Borges, whose fiction folds magic into the everyday, to sketch an imagined town gripped by ignorance and fear of outsiders. It is a pointed story about upheaval, but one that leaves the door open to collective hope.
The band shaped the songs in basement rehearsals in the countryside near Toulouse, trimming them down before recording at Daft Studios in Belgium, where most were captured in a single take. That live-room urgency is everywhere. The title track "Fantasia" opens the gates, the first single "A Storm of Wings" sits at the heart of the record, and "Orbis Tertius," which takes its name from a Borges story, pulls the saga deeper into the strange before "Secret Mirror" brings it home.
Eight songs in under 50 minutes, played at full volume with nothing wasted.
For anyone who caught Slift live or wore out Ilion, this is the next step, and an enormous one.
