Slayyyter's STARFUCKER (Deluxe Edition) arrives on gold vinyl, squeezing the 2023 album and its three deluxe additions onto a single glittering LP.
The St. Louis-raised pop provocateur built this record around Hollywood, its glamour and its hunger for fame. It arrived two years after her debut album, Troubled Paradise, and raised the stakes in every direction. Working with producers including Nicopop, Chris Lyon, Valley Girl and Aaron Joseph, she pulled from 80s synth-pop, sleazy electro and big dance-pop choruses, turning a pop star fantasy into something both knowingly camp and surprisingly sincere.
The deluxe tracks lead off this pressing, with "Makeup," featuring Lolo Zouaï, a sultry, slinky highlight. From there the original album takes over: "I Love Hollywood!" struts in with tongue-in-cheek bravado, "Miss Belladonna" turns vampy and theatrical, and "Erotic Electronic" pulses with neon-lit sleaze. Across the rest of the record the hooks keep coming, with enough real feeling under the gloss to stop it from ever playing like pure costume.
Fifteen songs on one LP makes for a nonstop ride, the kind of record that rewards the volume knob and a little eyeliner. In gold, it looks every bit as dramatic as it sounds, and it sits nicely beside any collection that runs on maximalist pop.
