Originally unleashed in 1988, South of Heaven followed the ferocious Reign in Blood with a more deliberate, haunting approach. Tracks like the title song “South of Heaven,” “Mandatory Suicide,” and “Silent Scream” still pack a punch, but with a brooding, sinister edge that shows Slayer evolving without losing their bite. Their cover of Judas Priest’s “Dissident Aggressor” is pure thrash homage with a hellish twist.
