Downside Up brings the B-sides of Siouxsie and the Banshees to vinyl for the first time, a remastered 5LP box set with booklet, covering 49 studio tracks from 1978 to 1995.

First issued on CD in 2004, the collection confirmed what fans had long suspected: the Banshees treated their flip sides as a playground rather than a dumping ground. Siouxsie has described B-sides as a place for spontaneity and experiment, and these songs prove it. Remastered from the original tapes, this edition keeps things studio-only, leaving out The Thorn EP and a pair of live tracks.

The range is startling. A spiky cover of 20th Century Boy nods to the band's glam roots, while Tattoo prowls with a coiled menace that hints at the gothic shadows they helped shape. The French carol Il Est Né, Le Divin Enfant arrives as a frosty, mischievous curveball.

Later sides lean into lush, psychedelic shimmer and grand, cinematic arrangements, with Something Wicked (This Way Comes) showing how far they travelled from their post-punk beginnings.

The booklet adds a new introduction from Siouxsie plus commentary from Siouxsie and Steven Severin. For collectors, this is the other half of the Banshees story, and in many ways the more daring one.
