Siouxsie and the Banshees went lush and psychedelic on A Kiss in the Dreamhouse, the 1982 album presented here on 180-gram vinyl.
Their fifth studio album found the band at a creative peak, co-producing with Mike Hedges and embracing richer textures than ever before. Guitarist John McGeoch, on his final record with the group, played with extraordinary color, while Budgie's drums and Steven Severin's bass kept the songs restless and hypnotic.
"Cascade" opens in a shimmering rush, "Slowdive" twists a funky pulse into something seductive and strange, and "Melt!" sinks into a dreamy, sensual slow burn. "Painted Bird" adds darker, more dramatic shades, while elsewhere the band find room for lighter, almost whimsical touches that keep the spell from ever growing heavy.
Siouxsie's voice is commanding and sensual throughout, and the songs explore obsession, desire and fantasy with poetic flair.
